The clock starts when the hospital receives the referral and stops when treatment starts or the patient is discharged. People still waiting have not finished their wait, so their final wait will be longer than shown.

Independent providers treat NHS-funded patients for a narrower range of conditions, so waits are not directly comparable with a hospital trust.

0 of 10 Yours would be the first. 10 are needed before figures appear.

Figures appear here once 10 people have logged a wait in the last 90 days. Official figures stop the clock at first treatment. We also count waits for tests, results and follow-up appointments, and how often the hospital cancelled.

Your rights

Know where you stand

  • 18 weeks. You have the legal right to start non-urgent, consultant-led treatment within 18 weeks of your referral. NHS guide to waiting times
  • Suspected cancer. Cancer should be confirmed or ruled out within 28 days of an urgent referral. NHS guide to waiting times
  • Ask to be treated somewhere else. If you are likely to wait longer than 18 weeks, you have the legal right to ask to be seen by a different provider. The hospital or the local NHS board must look into it and offer alternatives that could see you sooner. NHS guide to waiting times
  • Choose your hospital. In most cases you have the legal right to choose which hospital you are referred to. Waiting times differ, so it is worth comparing. NHS guide to waiting times
