Potholes and road repairs
How long a pothole takes to fix, from the day it was reported to the council.
1 pin on the map, 1 still waiting
Reported, not fixed yetFixedGave up waiting
Each pin is a pothole or defect that someone reported to the council and then logged here, confirmed by email. Tap a pin for the dates. Pins stay for 90 days after a fix, and for as long as the wait is still running. Map © OpenStreetMap contributors.
The councils' own promises
| Council | Inspects a report | Fixes it |
|---|---|---|
| Hull City Council | Within 5 working days | Up to 28 days, if a repair is needed |
| East Riding of Yorkshire Council | Within 24 hours | 24 hours, 7 days or 28 days, depending on how dangerous it is |
- 8,476 potholes repaired by Hull City Council in 2025/26, by its own estimate
Taken from each council's website in October 2026. Neither council publishes how long repairs actually took, or how many met these times. That is the gap this page fills.

Nothing logged yet
Figures appear here once 10 people have logged a pothole or road defect in the last 90 days. Two dates are all it takes: the day you reported it to the council and the day it was fixed.

Kept fair
- Reported to the council first. The clock starts the day the council was told, not the day the hole appeared.
- Not every report needs a repair. Councils inspect, then fix the most dangerous first. Some defects are judged too small to repair.
- Good and bad. A pothole filled in two days counts as much as one left for months.
- A pin on the road, nothing else. No names, no house numbers, no photos. Pins are rounded to about ten metres.
- Nothing goes to the council. Logging here does not report a pothole. Use the council's own form for that.
- Not every road is the council's. The A63 and the M62 are looked after by National Highways.
