Why this exists

Official figures often measure the first step: how fast the phone was answered, or whether an appointment was booked. They rarely show how long it took for the ambulance to arrive, for officers to attend, for the GP appointment to happen or for the council to fix the problem.

This site lets the people who waited log the dates, and shows them next to what the services publish. It also tells you what each service must do, and gives you a letter, filled in from your own dates, if you decide to complain.

Who runs it

How Long Did You Wait? is run by HOWLONGDIDYOUWAIT? LIMITED, a company registered in England and Wales, number 17516840, set up in Hull in 2026. Registered office: Unit 3 Stonetec Park, Kingston upon Hull, HU8 8DA.

Independent

• Not part of any service. We are not part of the NHS, the police, the fire service, any council or Yorkshire Water, and nothing we publish is checked or approved by them.
• No advertising and no tracking. We don't sell or share anyone's details.
• The same rules for everyone. Good and bad waits count the same, and no service can pay to change what appears about it.
• Services can reply. Any service we show can publish a reply beside its figures, through our right of reply.

How the figures are kept fair

Each wait is confirmed by email, limited per person, and counted only for the place it was logged against. A service's logged figures appear only once ten people have logged a wait there in the last 90 days, and they are never merged with the official figures. How we count, in full.

If something is wrong

If you think a figure, a source or anything we say about your rights is wrong, email hello@howlongdidyouwait.co.uk and tell us which page. We check every report. If we got it wrong, we correct it and say on the page what changed and when.

If you logged a wait by mistake, you can delete it yourself from your record page, using the link in your email.
