How to read this

  • The clock starts at booking. Time spent trying to get through, or being told to call back another day, is not in these figures.
  • Surgeries label their own appointments. What one surgery records as a general consultation, another may record differently, so small gaps between surgeries mean little.
  • A surgery is included when it recorded at least 200 general consultations in the month and they made up at least 15% of its appointments. That rule is ours, not the NHS's.
  • Same day is not always better. A surgery that only books on the day scores highly here, even if patients have to call back several mornings running.
  • Phone figures count answered calls only, and cover surgeries whose phone supplier sends data to the NHS.
