Before you decide where to go
- A&E is for emergencies. Such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, signs of a stroke, or a serious injury. Don't go elsewhere to save time.
- Urgent treatment centres deal with urgent problems that are not life-threatening, such as sprains, suspected broken bones, minor burns and infections.
- Seen in order of need. A short wait for others does not mean a short wait for you. People with the most serious problems are seen first.
- Already waiting? Don't go somewhere else without speaking to the staff first, and tell them straight away if you feel worse. NHS 111 can advise you.
- NHS 111 can tell you the right place to go, and can often book you a time at an urgent treatment centre.
