You pay for it. You can't choose it. So time it.
Official figures count how fast the phone is answered. This site shows what happens next, from the people it happened to, beside the official figures. Out in the open, so services can see it and put it right. If they don't, we'll give you the letters, the rules and the way to the Ombudsman, already filled in from your own dates. And when enough people log the same wait at the same place, we write to the service ourselves, in public.

York right now
0 of 5 NHS standards met
The latest figures, August and September 2026. Coloured against England: ▼ worse ● about the same ▲ better.
York's hospital figures are for its main hospital trust, and the ambulance figure for the service that covers it. The standards are those in the NHS Constitution. The NHS plan for 2026-27 sets lower goals on the way, such as 82% for A&E, an average of 25 minutes for ambulance emergencies and 70% for hospital waits. Patient Safety Learning hub, reporting HSJ

Had a speeding notice?
The police have 14 days to serve it. Two dates from the letter tell you whether they did. Never the speed, the road or who was driving.
Had the bailiffs round?
Seven days' notice, 6am to 9pm, fixed fees, care for vulnerable people. Check the visit against the rules the council holds them to.
Someone taken in by the police?
They can be held 24 hours without charge. A clock for the person waiting at home, with what you can ask, and the custody record letter afterwards. Never the offence, never a name.
Waiting on HMRC?
Your 30 days to appeal; HMRC's own 15 working days to reply; the complaint tiers and the Adjudicator. One clock for both, with the letters written as it runs. Never the tax or the amount.
8 waits logged so far
Answering a call in two seconds says nothing about whether anyone came. Booking an appointment says nothing about the days spent trying to get one. People log what really happened: how long it took, how often it was cancelled, whether they were kept informed and whether anyone turned up. 6 clocks are running right now.
A record we build together
This site belongs to the people of Humber and North Yorkshire. Nobody is paid to make a service look good here, and nobody is paid to make it look bad.
One person's wait is easy to wave away. Hundreds, logged by the people they happened to and set beside the official figures, are a record. It lets all of us hold our services to account for what really happens, not only for how fast the phone is answered. And when a service does well, the same record shows it.

How it works
1. Pick where you waited
Your GP surgery, a hospital clinic or the police, and what you needed. Sat in a waiting room or A&E right now? Time it live.
2. Give two dates
The day you first tried and the day it was sorted. Still waiting? Start a clock and stop it later.
3. Confirm by email
One tap on the link we email you, so each wait comes from a real inbox. No account, no names, no opinions. Your email is deleted once your wait is finished.
Kept fair
- Facts, not opinions. Dates and numbers only. There is no comment box anywhere on the site.
- Good and bad. A quick wait counts exactly as much as a slow one. This is a record, not a complaints board.
- No individuals. Figures are for a surgery, a clinic or a police force, never a named person.
- Ten before anything shows. A service's reported figures appear only once ten people have logged a wait in the last 90 days. The one exception is the street maps, which show each pinned pothole, fly-tip or street light with its dates, never who reported it.
- Official and reported side by side. Never merged into one score, and each says what it does and doesn't count.
